“A business that makes nothing but money is a poor business.” – Henry Ford

A video that follows up to a previous video from Wired. This clip highlights the different approach that Tesla takes to manufacturing. A philosophy, that looks forward to the future of sustainable transportation. Bringing the advances of heavy automation with the originality that comes from a strong human element.

“Anytime I’m involved with anything that’s well-received, it’s a surprise to me.” – Larry David

As an entrepreneur there are many steps that need to be taken to finally get to the actual starting point of beginning a new business. There are  times you may even forget the original inspiration why you started such an undertaking. After our recent success, I was feeling reenergized and I remembered what started the idea of Tesla Trips. I wanted to see meaningful change in sustainable transportation and to help provide more options for the consumer.

“There really isn’t a time to pause and have a celebration. I feel so serious about the whole thing.” – Story Musgrave

Impromptu photo downtown to commemorate today’s success!

Story Musgrave is a retired NASA astronaut and while he may be referring to the his adventures in space. I’m referring to how long it has taken to get here and how much farther we have to go. We are taking a moment to celebrate today’s news. Tesla Trips was finally recognized by the City of Portland as an Executive Sedan company. We first applied to the City of Portland in April and have been waiting very patiently. We are all very thankful for their decision and we welcome the opportunity to serve this great city!

Don’t get me wrong: the Tesla Model S in its stock form is one sweet ride. However, Tesla Motors has plenty on its plate right now, and it doesn’t mean something that is already great can’t be made better. James Bond didn’t just have a 1964 Aston Martin DB5; he had a 1964 Aston Martin DB5 with twin .30 cal machine gun. While I think of myself mostly as a pacifist, the addition of the machine guns endows the vehicle with a certain je ne sais quoi. At Tesla Trips, we obviously have a bias towards electric vehicles, but there is no denying the eternal beauty of the ’64 DB5. While the Tesla is, in a lot of ways, different, the car’s design language does frequently get mistaken for the British luxury marquee, which in no way is a bad thing. It’d be as if every couple of days, women would come up to me and say, “Oh, are you Ryan Gosling?” I mean obviously they do, it’s just not that frequent… Continue reading

“I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” – Thomas Edison

Just came across this short video from Wired about the Tesla Motors factory in Fremont, California. I toured the factory in early May of this year. If you ever have the opportunity to check out the factory, I highly recommend it. Tesla Motors’ ability to constantly tweak and innovate in their products is a much needed change in the automobile industry. Taking lessons from the tech startup world and applying them to manufacturing is refreshing to see. It seems almost alien by the fact that is happening not only in the U.S., but in California as opposed to Detroit. Continue reading

“Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

On Tuesday, Tesla Trips had the pleasure of touring part of Oregon with Harry from Travel Oregon and Ashley of ODOT. Ashley was part of the group that made the West Coast Electric Highway a reality. Travel Oregon has been trying to promote this network and some of the beautiful scenery of Oregon by creating itineraries specifically for EVs. We recently drove part of the Mt. Hood and Columbia River Gorge EV Itinerary from Travel Oregon. Continue reading

It’s been a while since we’ve sent out a post, and partly due to the fact that our Tesla Model S arrived on June 26th… Over the past week we’ve had the opportunity to enjoy the awesome capabilities of the car. On the Fourth of July, we we’re able to share the car in the Hood River 4th of July Parade. While it was a last minute surprise, it was an honor to be in the parade with the Hood River Valley High School’s electric car program. Students were driving around in electric cars that they had made for their class and got to race all around the state. Our Tesla played the role as mobile mechanic and EV pace car. A couple of the high school EV’s had some of their chains slip, but it was nothing that was out of our realm of expertise. Continue reading
